Definition
Tits group
The commutator subgroup of ²F₄(2), of index 2.
The Tits group is the commutator subgroup of :
Its multiplication is inherited from the specified finite group. This definition uses the full group at its exceptional small parameter before taking the commutator subgroup.
Order and simplicity
Identification and index
It is a normal subgroup of index in . This is the Tits group. Its order factors as . It is a special group at the boundary of the exceptional Lie-type families. It is not counted among the 26 sporadic simple groups.
