Steinberg fixed-point group
A finite group obtained as fixed points of a specified algebraic-group endomorphism, modulo the finite center.
Let be a connected simply connected semisimple algebraic group over . For an algebraic-group endomorphism such that for some positive integers , the Steinberg fixed-point group and its central quotient are
Here is the Frobenius endomorphism of a chosen split model and is the finite center. The fixed points form a finite group under inherited multiplication. A specific twisted family includes the choice of and as part of its definition.
Graph and exceptional twists
For a pinned Dynkin-diagram automorphism of order commuting with , the choice has . An exceptional endomorphism in the Suzuki–Ree cases instead satisfies . With , one has .
These two constructions use different field conventions. Here uses matrices over , while and use the indicated graph–Frobenius parameter . Some sources put or in those names instead.
