A finite group is a GG whose underlying set is a . Its order, denoted ∣G∣|G|, is the number of its elements. In particular, the trivial group has order 11.

Examples and classification

The additive group Z/nZ\mathbb Z/n\mathbb Z has order nn, for every integer n≥1n\geq1. The SnS_n has order n!n!.

The applies to the finite groups having no proper nontrivial and having order greater than one. General finite groups need not be simple; the finite-group table includes both kinds.
