For a TT and f,h∈L2f,h\in L^2, their correlation at time n≥0n\geq0 is

cn(f,h)=⟨UTnf,h⟩=∫Xf(Tnx)h(x)‾ dμ(x).c_n(f,h)=\langle U_T^nf,h\rangle =\int_X f(T^nx)\overline{h(x)}\,d\mu(x).

For invertible TT, negative times are also defined. The centered correlation subtracts (∫f dμ)∫h dμ‾(\int f\,d\mu)\overline{\int h\,d\mu}; the autocorrelation takes h=fh=f.

Events and representations

For f=1A,h=1Bf=1_A,h=1_B, correlation equals μ(T−nA∩B)\mu(T^{-n}A\cap B). It is a of the Koopman representation, with the sign of nn adjusted for the inverse-pullback convention.
