Definition
Cyclic group C_2
Residue classes modulo 2 under addition.
the cyclic group is the group of residue classes, with addition modulo .
Order and simplicity
It has elements, generated by the residue class of . Every subgroup is cyclic, and every subgroup is normal because the group is abelian. A group of prime order has no proper nontrivial subgroup by Lagrange’s theorem, so this group is simple.
Catalogue convention
This is an additive group object. The ring with the same residue classes has additional multiplication, and belongs to different categories. The cyclic-group classification identifies every cyclic group of this order with this model.
