Lemma. Let (nk)(n_k) be a strictly increasing of positive integers, i.e., n1<n2<⋯n_1<n_2<\cdots. Then

nk≥kfor all k∈N.n_k\ge k \quad\text{for all }k\in\mathbb{N}.

Proof. By induction. For k=1k=1, n1≥1n_1\ge 1. Assume nk≥kn_k\ge k. Then nk+1>nk≥kn_{k+1}>n_k\ge k, hence nk+1≥k+1n_{k+1}\ge k+1.

Remarks

This estimate is often used when transferring "eventually" statements from a sequence to a (e.g., to compare thresholds NN and KK).
