Baer's criterion: Let RR be a unital ring and let QQ be a left RR-module. Then QQ is injective if and only if for every left ideal I⊆RI\subseteq R and every RR-linear map f:I→Qf:I\to Q, there exists an RR-linear map F:R→QF:R\to Q such that F∣I=fF|_I=f.

As a diagram, this is the injectivity diagram with A↪BA\hookrightarrow B replaced by the inclusion I↪RI\hookrightarrow R:

Commutative diagram0 \arrow[r] & I \arrow[r, hook] \arrow[d, "f"'] & R \arrow[dl, dashed, "\exists\,F"] \\ & Q &

This reduces checking to an extension property for defined on (left) of a .
